I DID IT!!!

I actually did it!!! I completed all 60.6 miles of the Susan G Komen 3 Day for the Cure yesterday! I am so proud of myself for walking the whole thing despite two very painful feet! But I am more proud that as a group the 2,400 walkers raised $6.2 million dollars for breast cancer research. What an amazing accomplishment! I am really hopeful that this kind of money CAN make a difference.

I started the blog with the idea of blogging about the prep for this year's walk. Well, time being what it is I had no time to write, and barely enough to train and fundraise. Today I am sitting at the PC with blistered and weary feet, planning on doing absolutely nothing, and it occurred to me that I can use this blog for next year. I am going to start a team, so this will be where I can talk to people interested in being in a team and also share my walking experiences with those who are kind enough to sponsor me.

The first several posts will be about the 2010 experience. And it was an awesome one! I was not sure I would be able to do it. I did not train as much as I wanted to, and I did not get the donations easily. So many people say something like, "it's just walking, anyone can walk 60 miles" when you tell them what you are doing. One walker jokingly said that they wanted to pay for those people to do it just once. It is not an easy task. It is very doable, but it is NOT easy. But it is an experience that is completely worth doing. The walkers are an incredible group of caring and dedicated people. The people who volunteer to crew are amazing in their support and spirit. And the people who come out along the route day after day to support and cheer us on are wonderful.

I can't wait to share stories and pictures of this year's walk!
